Auto repair in the United States is split between independent shops, dealership service departments and national chains. Independents handle most routine work (oil changes, brakes, tune-ups, check-engine diagnostics) at lower labor rates and often specialize in one make or in imports; dealers keep factory tools, software and warranty authority; chains sell speed and standard pricing on maintenance items. Most shops charge a diagnostic fee, credited toward the repair if you go ahead, and quote parts and labor separately. Certification matters: look for ASE-certified technicians and, in many states, a state repair license posted at the counter. Written estimates are required by law in most states before work begins, and you are entitled to your old parts if you ask.

Sugar Land is in Texas, in the South, where summers are hot and humid, winters are short, and severe storms in spring are a fact of life; businesses run air conditioning most of the year and many open early to beat the heat. Getting around Sugar Land is easiest by car; street parking is metered in busy downtown areas, and most suburban businesses have their own lot. Edit in response to reply: Again, upon leaving this shop, I found a mechanic to SHOW ME WITH MY OWN EYES, that the rotors were not warped as this shop is claiming. They are doubling down on trying to take money from people that's unnecessary. Was quoted over $1000 to replace brakes that had already been replaced when seeking help with related brake fluid issues. They told me the rotors were completely worn down & my trusted mechanic did not replace them. I got a 3rd opinion and had the next mechanic show me the rotors with an in depth explanation. Mike's 99 auto tried to tell me I needed to replace rotors that were perfectly fine, in an attempt to make a $1000 sale. I will not be back and do not trust this shop to be honest with their customers.

Update: The steering wheel is STILL not centered, even after changing the car's alignment to correct the misaligned steering wheel. So now I have an alignment issue. Fixed one problem to create another. My first time at Mike Tate's will be my last. Got the A/C evaporator core replaced, which involved removing the steering wheel and whole dashboard. When I got the car back, the steering wheel was put back on crooked - off by a few splines. Called them about it and took it back, they sounded nice and were willing to fix it. When I got the car back the second time, I found out instead of reinstalling the steering wheel onto the correct splines, they just realigned the car to compensate for the off center steering wheel. I wanted to trust the shop to do right because of all the positive reviews, even forked out $2k for the A/C job, which is pretty costly. I figured I'd be paying for quality worksmanship, they say you get what you pay for. I was wrong. A/C was fixed but now the alignment and steering rack that never had issues is now messed with. Took me for a sucker like I wasn't gonna find out. I had high hopes but this is just disappointing.

I had a really great experience at this auto shop. Eric was especially helpful. He took the time to clearly explain everything about my car in a way that was easy to understand. I really appreciated how patient and thorough he was. On top of that, the shop went above and beyond by providing me with a free loaner car while mine was being worked on. All I had to do was put gas. The loaner car made a huge difference and showed how much they care about their customersβ convenience. Overall, the service was honest, professional, and genuinely helpful. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for trustworthy auto care. Thank you Eric!

The gentlemen at the counter were amazing! I picked up a nail at a nearby construction site. They were close; I pulled in and immediately served. Quick repair and they give veterans discounts.
